Indian tabla player Zakir Hussain bagged three honours at the 66th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles, USA, on February 4. The 72-year-old received the Best Global Music Performance award for the song ‘Pashto’. He also secured the Grammy Award in the Best Global Music Album category for ‘This Moment’ with his band Shakti and in the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album category for ‘As We Speak’. Hussain, who began his career in music at the age of 12 under the tutelage of his father, is the first Indian artist to bag three Grammy Awards in a single night. He is also the recipient of a Padma Bhushan and a Padma Vibhushan in 2002 and 2023, respectively.
