Archaeologists have discovered a 2,300-year-old mosaic in a well-preserved state on the side of the Palatine Hill in Rome, Italy. According to archaeologists, the mosaic was found on the wall of a banquet hall that was part of a mansion belonging to a noble family. The mosaic was made with corals, shells, pieces of marble and glass and features battle scenes, tridents, vines and mythological sea creatures. The mosaic, which is around 16ft in length, was discovered close to the Roman Colosseum. Archaeologists believe that the precious decorative items used to create the intricate artwork indicate the noble family’s high social status.
