New Species of Sea Lettuce Discovered

20 new species of sea lettuce have been discovered in the Baltic Sea Region and Skagerrak by researchers at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

20 new species of sea lettuce have been discovered in the Baltic Sea Region and Skagerrak by researchers at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. Three of these 20 newly-discovered species are invasive. Sea lettuce, a kind of green algae, has the ability to reproduce easily and grow fast, which makes it interesting for a growing aquaculture industry as it is a good food source. Scientists are conducting studies on the use of sea lettuce in the food industry and its applications in the biochemical field.
