Scientists have devised a new method for sucking carbon dioxide, a warming agent, from the air and storing it in the sea. This new method could be a significant way of battling climate change as it is able to trap carbon dioxide up to three times more efficiently as compared to methods that are currently in use.
To remove carbon dioxide directly from the air, scientists made alterations to the absorbent material used in direct air capture using copper and created a new absorbent material that can suck up ultra-dilute concentrations of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Seawater was used to convert the trapped carbon dioxide into sodium bicarbonate before releasing it into the sea.
