According to a new study, it is estimated that approximately two-thirds of the glaciers in the world will disappear by 2100. Scientists studied 2,15,000 land-based glaciers and the effect their melting would have on the rise in sea level. At the current rate of temperature rise, scientists project that 68% of the glaciers could disappear by the end of the century, leading to a rise in sea level of approximately 4.5 inches. According to scientists, the world would have to limit warming to the global goal of 1.5˚C of warming since pre-industrial times to reduce the extent at which glaciers are melting.
