The first 3D-printed brain tissue that works and grows in the same way as human brain tissue has been developed by researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. To develop the tissue, researchers adopted the horizontal 3D printing method instead of the usual vertical approach. This novel technique enables the neurons to communicate with each other, grow and form networks that replicate the structure of the human brain. This development will help scientists understand and treat different types of neurodevelopmental and neurological issues including Alzheimer’s disease.
