36 satellites were placed into low Earth orbit (LEO) by LVM3, the heaviest rocket of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), on March 26. The 43.5mt-tall rocket had a payload of 5,805kgs and blasted off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, carrying the satellites of a United Kingdom-based private satellite communications company called OneWeb. With the launch of these satellites, OneWeb presently has 618 satellites orbiting in space. LVM3, the rocket that was used to place the satellites in orbit, will also be used for India’s Gaganyaan mission.
