Archaeologists have discovered a 2,000-year-old statue that looks similar to a sphinx as well as the remains of a shrine in a temple in Qena, a city in southern Egypt. The statue is made of limestone and has a smiling face and dimples. According to archaeologists, the sculpture is a depiction of Claudius, an ancient Roman emperor, who governed Rome from 41 to 54 AD. A two-layer platform from the Byzantine era, a mud-brick basin and a stone slab with hieroglyphic and demotic inscriptions were also found at the site.
