On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, which is celebrated annually on September 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that 14,500 schools across India will be upgraded under the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India Yojna (PM-SHRI), a centrally sponsored scheme. Existing schools run by the centre, union territories, states and local bodies will be upgraded under this scheme and will become model schools, reflecting the important features of the National Education Policy 2020. These schools will be provided with smart classrooms, laboratories, libraries, sports equipment and other facilities and will employ a holistic method of teaching. The schools will also be developed into green schools through the use of energy-efficient infrastructure.
